Etymological Evidence:
Speculative, Anglo-French/Old French filace, etc., probably from a Vulgar Latin form *filacea derived from L. filum (see file); the medieval Latin forms are derived from the French. Modern standard French filasse. Just as file could mean both 'thread' (etc.) and 'set of documents attached by thread' (cf. the modern senses of English 'file'), so filasse had several non-cloth senses of this kind ('collection of documents', etc.).
WF: Borrowed into the British Isles
Etym Cog: filace (OF).
