    Etymological Evidence:

Definite, Ultimately from Old French diminuative (-et, -ette) of bleu (masc.) and bleue (fem.). Also cf. other forms related to MdE blue, inclugind L blavus, blodius, bludus, etc.; blue. The term bluet seems to have dropped out of use by the sixteenth century.
