(1985), p. 207], often figured; also used attributively ('of chalon', shalloon, and cf. L chalonicus). Also, some kind of pure wool cloth (?), in the 'Ancient Consuetudinary of the City of Winchester' (AND Winchester) the textile is identified as a short cloth woven by 'tapeners', probably on the two-beam loom. Cf. sense 1b. Also, cf. L catalaunensis.(ante 1275 - 1620)

Most instances (particularly ME, MdE, L) describe a chalon as a type of bed-covering. (cf. MdE, chaloner, p1860).
