Definite, Classical Latin, < Greek κίδαριϛ, a term originally used of a high Persian or hat or cap, sometimes used of a royal diadem, though in various texts for headgear worn by differing Oriental peoples (the word is ultimately of Indo-Iranian origin, and cf. Sanskrit kirīta 'crown').
