    Etymological Evidence:

Speculative, normally associated with the verb OE hrisian (ME resen, MdE rese), meaning 'shake', beat', in which case this word is probably formed with the stem plus the same agent suffix -el seen in needle and heddle (see needle, heald). The later English risel, rissle 'stick, twig' is suggested by OED to be a borrowing from Scandinavian or use of the root seen in the word rice 'twig' + suffix. Hrisian/rese itself is not attested in any specific textile manufacturing sense, however.
