1(n.) Raw Material; in cloth and clothing contexts: the fur of the Eurasiatic squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) or similar. From at least the early 15th century, could be used as a mass or collective noun for fur (w/o article). See Hayward , M. (2012)f. The word is only attested in AF texts referring to the animal, rather than its fur.(ante 1320 still in current use)
