    Etymological Evidence:

Definite, From the verb brouder (embroider) and/or from Old French brouderie, broderie (primarily fourteenth century). Cf. broider. The British Latin forms brouderia, broudura, broudatura appear in texts as early as 1398. Early Modern Irish bródáil (occuring in the Grammatical Tracts in the medieval period) is normally taken to be a loan from English.
