1a(n.) Garment; ceremonial or ecclesiastical garment or suit of garments; an altar cloth, suit of altar clothes or other ecclesiastical soft furnishings. In most instances, vestment refers to a suit of clothing worn during the performance of liturgical service; found in apposition to indumentum. The garments for the service changed not only in appearance but in number throughout the period. Specific garments included the alb, chasuble, stole, amice, girdle, dalmatic, gloves, mitre, ring, crozier, cope, gremiale. Note the AF construction 'vestement entier' (set or suit of of [liturgical] vestments).(circa 700 still in current use)
