Garment;
general term for various kinds of long covering or garment, often of light fabric. The term is often found in Biblical texts and descriptions of garments worn by persons connected to the Church. It is possible that such garments were generally made of fine linen; at times, they are also described as sindon (q.v.). Most uses seem to refer back to the story in the Gospels, though it is found in an Old English gloss on Isidore and texts derived therefrom.(ante 900 - ante 1100)
